I believe that children are our future…
An effective teacher is merely a guide. Students learn to their fullest capacity when they learn to find the answers to their own questions. I believe that a teacher provides the time, materials, and inspiration for students’ construction of knowledge. By providing hands-on activities, manipulatives, and the use of cooperative learning groups, I will set discovery learning in place, creating an advantageous learning environment. I feel that an effective teacher must also understand that collaboration is needed in education. Families, administration, and the community all play a vital part in the development of a child. Incorporating all of these strategies and values into the classroom will promote children to learn to their maximum potential.
I believe that each child has a natural curiosity…
It’s one thing to memorize information; it’s another to internalize it. Internalization begins at making the curriculum relevant to one’s life. By incorporating student interests, not only will I engage them, but I will be helping them store the curriculum for long term use. I understand that there are multiple learning styles. I will adapt the curriculum to fit each students needs because I know this is vital. It’s also important to make each child feel successful. I can do this by seizing every opportunity to compliment and encourage a child for doing something successfully. The feeling of success will encourage students’ will to learn. Through the feeling of success and incorporating interests, I will be promoting intrinsic motivation in children.
I believe that everyone and everything is beautiful…
My classroom will be a safe, caring, and ever interesting place to be. The classroom is a place where children can grow and blossom. Children will learn how to respect others and themselves through a classroom environment that is a place where they can share their ideas openly and discipline is both fair and consistent. My classroom will be a place where students learn to monitor their own behavior and to control it. The red, yellow, green light system is one way to accomplish this. By putting responsibility for learning and behavior into the children’s hands, not only am I giving them tools to become successful in life, but I am also teaching them how to love themselves, and treat others with kindness.
I believe that learning is lifelong…
Education is forever changing and advancing. I know that my learning isn’t stopping after I’ve earned my college degree. I believe that an effective teacher will continue to update his or herself on new research or new strategies that are discovered. Assessment is lifelong also. It’s important to be open minded to any constructive criticism a colleague or advisor will give you. I understand that no one is perfect and there is always room for growth. Therefore, I am forever learning by keeping suggestions in mind and by bettering myself with them.
